DANGER UXB's
MUSEUM NEW FOR 2023
Danger UXB's Mobile Museum, is a small and unique private museum, telling the story of Britain’s Home Front during the Second World War and through immersive events help to create an authentic experience.
The project is spearheaded by Steve Day, author and historian of the book “Danger UXB”
Every part of Wales was impacted by the second world war, from air raids. Rationing, evacuation and loved ones leaving going to war.
The uniqueness and quality of the displays is guaranteed to educate, entertain and create opportunities for both young and old. What we are offering is a living history museum, for schools it makes up a valuable part of the curriculum which will enhance learning about the war years.
For care home residents, it helps them remember the good times and reminisce about the past.
As a localmuseum we will be able to provide a sense of community and place, by celebrating a collective heritage, offering a great way to get to know the history of wartime Wales.

At home the kitchen was the where the family came together, we look at the precautions everybody had to make during the war, and the effects of living with the constant fear of air raids. We talk about evacuation and the upheaval caused by the seperation of families.
In the Shop, the focus shifts to food rationing, the need to grow your own vegetables and the importance of community spirit. and the realities of bombing raids in the towns and villages, and learn about the role of ARP Wardens. At the sound of the air raid siren, we sit in the Air Raid Shelter where we listen to the bombs falling outside and wonder whether our house will be hit. We hear firsthand accounts of children who experienced the blitz. We learn about the work of the Auxiliaries and voluntary services such as the ARP Wardens, WRVS, to name a few. But not forgeting the Home Guard and the dedicated men of the Royal Engineers bomb disposal sections that defused the bombs. |

The museum displays are suitable for any size of group, either indoors or outdoors. As part of the display, I bring a range of bomb disposal tools / equipment, Bombs, bomb fuses, as well as antipersonnel bombs and grenades. I demonstrate how to extract a Fuze from a full-size German SD 50kg bomb that fell during the night after yet another heavy air raid. After the talk and demonstration, I am always on hand to answer any questions, you may have. This hands-on approach, stimulates both adults and children alike, with an aim to provide a better understanding of WW2 Britain. |
Unlike many displays and talks that are hidden away behind glass, my displays are hands on,
this is what makes Danger UXB unique.
